Travel alert: Electronic device restrictions on flights to USA

The UK has joined the USA in banning any electronic devices larger than 16cm x 9.3cm from being carried as hand luggage in the airline cabin on flights departing from specific destinations. 

The UK has announced that the ban will be implented on any direct flight from the following six countries to any port in the UK.

  • Egypt
  • Jordan
  • Lebanon
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey

The following airlines remain effected by the USA ban (full details below):

  • Emirates 
  • Etihad Airways
  • Qatar Airways 
  • Kuwait Airways
  • Royal Jordanian
  • Egypt Air 
  • Royal Air Maroc
  • Saudi Arabian Airlines
  • Turkish Airlines

The US ban takes effect from 25 March 2017. The UK will allow airlines to implement the ban themselves, however, passengers should assume it is effective immediately. 

All passengers are recommended to follow any communications directly from the carrier.

Travel alert: Electronic device restrictions on flights to USA

The US Government has announced a ban on large electronic devices from cabin baggage on passenger flights from eight countries, including the United Arab Emirates. The restriction has been imposed in response to alleged terror threats and will be effective from Friday 24 March.

FCM recommends all passengers travelling to the US to pack any electronic device larger than a mobile phone in their checked luggage to avoid any disruptions at the airport. This includes, but is not limited to, laptops, tablets, large digital cameras, portable DVD players etc. 

The airlines have until Friday to comply with the restrictions which will be in place until further notice.

Will all passengers be affected?

Yes, this electronics ban is not related to the recent Immigration Policy released by the US. All passengers, regardless of nationality and including US citizens, will be required to adhere to the electronics ban regulations.

  • Laptops - all makes and models
  • Cameras - all makes and models
  • Portable DVD players - all makes and models
  • Electonic game devices - all makes and models
  • Travel printers and scanners - all makes and models
