The Flight Centre Travel Group (FCTG) global ball is a two day conference and event that is becoming infamous around the world for the sheer scope and size of the event.

Organised by FCTG's event and production experts – cievents – an event this grand requires a hotel that matches its status. This year, FCTG employees were treated to the thrills and delights of Singapore, staying at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. FCM's Global Marketing Specialist Sarah Capon, was one of the attendees of the annual global ball and shared her thoughts on the hotel with us below.

Tell us about the property in general

Approaching Marina Bay Sands in our private transfer was a definite ‘wow’ moment. The sheer size and architectural uniqueness of the building had me reaching for my camera immediately. A relatively new addition, the Marina Bay Sands complex was completed in 2010 and has drastically changed the Singapore skyline since my last business trip to Singapore.

The purpose of this trip was to attend the Flight Centre Travel Group Global conference for 3,300 delegates from around the world which was organised and operated like a well-oiled machine by the event organisers, cievents.

What was your room like?

The room allocated to my colleague and I was a twin Deluxe room which offered a generous 39m2 floor space, fully stocked mini bar, luxury linen, iron, safe, spacious work desk and, most importantly, complimentary Wi-Fi. The views from the seventh floor offered spectacular views over gardens by the bay with rooms on the other side of the building facing the iconic Singapore Bay.

What was the bathroom like?

The Deluxe rooms offered spacious, modern bathrooms with a great range of bathroom amenities, large vanity space and vast glad-walled showers – perfect to recharge after a long flight.

Was there a conference room and other rooms that made it suitable for a corporate getaway?

Marina Bay Sands boasts its very own conference centre, Sands Expo® and Convention Centre which is located across the road from the hotel and easily accessed via the adjoining shopping centre. Our conference and gala dinner were hosted there and comfortably accommodated our large group of delegates with the added bonus of free Wi-Fi available throughout the two days.

What other facilities were there?

It would be impossible to get bored at this hotel! With rooftop infinity pool, spa, gym and observation deck within the hotel plus adjoining shopping centre, theatre, ice skating rink and Artscience Museum - there truly is something for everyone enjoying a little downtime on their business trip.

Did you enjoy the food?

I think you could eat a meal somewhere new every day for a week and never visit the same restaurant twice at Marina Bay Sands! The food available was of the highest quality and ranged from Asian Street Food to exquisite rooftop fine-dining. A club sandwich and Singapore Sling while lounging by the infinity pool is an absolute must!

Who would you recommend this property for?

While Marina Bay Sands was perfect for our corporate needs, we were also in the company of families with young children, couples, wedding parties and groups of friends all making full use of the variety of facilities and entertainment options on offer.

Any eating or entertainment nearby that corporate travellers might want to visit?

Chilli crab! You cannot go to Singapore without trying the local chilli crab or visiting a local hawker centre for local dishes as cheap as they are delicious. One other ‘Singapore Bucket List’ item would have to be Singapore Slings at Raffles hotel which is a short walk from Marina Bay Sands.

What's your overall rating out of 5 and any final comments

Overall I would have to rate Marina Bay Sands 4.5 out of 5 stars, I would definitely go back, and highly recommend this for a corporate event or leisure getaway.
